For those who were not able to listen in on the last IGC-EC meeting, I proposed that we start the process of reviewing the old GIS strategic plan that was put out in Dec 2016 and do a refresh/rewrite. In Section 6 of the current GIS Strategic Plan it states... "The Strategic Plan defines a long-term SDI vision and a foundation for action covering a five year period, after which it must be reviewed and, if necessary, updated." The proposal is to create a committee/working group of no more than 14 members to represent State, County, & City governments, Tribal Nations, Academia, Federal government and private industry. The IGC Bylaws allow the formation of committees and working groups to address various issues which are then dissolved when their work is completed. There are several proposed outcomes and goals that need to be addressed in an update Strategic Plan as well as making sure that GIS professionals and practitioners in the state are heard during the process, but the proposed timeline is to have a final draft to recommend to the IGC-EC no later than the end of Q3 2021. As of today, there are six volunteers who have thrown their names into the hat. I am sending this out to see if there are others who would like to volunteer for this important activity and who are interested in working with a highly collaborative and professional group to help determine the GIS strategic plan for the next five years. Please note that all volunteers may not be selected for participation If we get more volunteers than proposed for this committee, or an uneven distribution from the representative groups. It that happens we will consider all names and work out the best representative team...but also reserve the option to increase the size of the committee slightly if it makes sense to do so. If you are interested, or know someone who may be interested, please email me at mike.woodford at its.idaho.gov. I would like to have the committee structure and membership finalized no later than Dec 31 so we can begin in earnest at the start of the new year.
