Previous to his federal government position, he was the GIS Manager for Horrocks Engineers (covering several western states) and also involved with the Utah Valley GIS user group leadership. He has worked in both the private and public sectors of GIS for over 15 years. When not working on GIS he enjoys coaching several youth soccer teams, playing frisbee golf, and has recently gotten into pinball. He is looking forward to the opportunity to serve Idaho GIS in this capacity for a full term. CYNDI ANDERSEN (Bannock County) Cyndi has been the GIS Director for Bannock County for the past 4 years and has been using GIS technology since the late 90's. She started her career with an Associate's degree in Civil Engineering and took GIS coursework from ISU, became a GISP in 2014, earned a Bachelor's in Technology and Management with a GIS minor in 2017, and plans to finish her Master's in Public Administration in 2022. SHANE LIM (Suez Water) Shane Lim, GISP, has more than 20 years of experience in Idaho. Shane received his B.S. in Cartography from the University of Idaho and has been working in water utilities for more than a decade. As the GIS Manager for SUEZ in Idaho, he works with a group of national experts as part of the SUEZ North America Utility Division. This group has designed, tested and implemented a GIS system for water utilities to create a "digital twin" of a water system from well to home and everything in between. He has also worked for the City of Meridian and supported the GIS efforts of the National Park Service.' STEWART WARD (Dioptra Geomatics) I earned a Bachelor's degree in Geomatics Technology from Idaho State University in 2008 and am a registered Professional Land Surveyor in Idaho and Utah. I own Dioptra, a full-service Land Surveying and Geomatics firm located in Eastern Idaho. I have been involved with surveying since 2001 with experience in land surveys, construction staking, control surveys, 3D Scanning, mapping and GIS applications. I have been involved with GIS since 2006. Since 2009, I have been involved with the Cadastral Reference TWG and Geodetic Control TWG and had a role in defining the attributes to be used in the Multi-State Control Point Database (MCPD). I am currently serving as the Idaho Governor to the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS). I believe that my background in surveying and my experience with the Regional Resource Center and other Technical Working Groups will bring fresh ideas and knowledge to the IGC-EC that will enhance the GIS efforts in Idaho. I believe that surveyors need to be involved with the GIS efforts in Idaho and without this involvement and support the GIS and Surveying communities will struggle to work together. PAM BOND (City of Boise) Pam Bond has been involved with the Idaho GIS community since she started her graduate program at Idaho State University - Boise Center Aerospace Lab, where she received her Masters of Science in Geographic Information Science. From volunteering at conferences to chairing the Idaho Geospatial Council-Executive Committee, she has stayed involved and continues to contribute to the betterment of the GIS community. After six years using her GIS skills for wildlife management with Idaho Fish and Game, she has moved on to a new position working for City of Boise in IT GIS as a GIS System Project Coordinator. Pam enjoys working collaboratively and hearing the voices of the different GIS communities. JEFF MAY (Idaho Department of Fish and Game) Jeff is a member of the Idaho Fish and Wildlife Information Systems (IFWIS) team at the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. Having eight years of GIS development, analysis and data infrastructure experience, Jeff works developing amazing web apps and standing up the server infrastructure to support them! Jeff received his MS in Geographic Information Science in 2015 from Idaho State University where he completed multiple internships for federal, county, and local levels of government at the GIS Training and Research Center. Jeff received his GISP certification from the GIS Certification Institute in March 2018. Recently turned loose from the 'big city,' Jeff now resides in Pocatello, ID with his wife and child (soon to be children) where they enjoy days spent exploring Idaho landscapes and quiet evenings at home. GAIL JORGENSON (ACHD Idaho) Hello, my name is Gail Jorgenson and I currently work at the Ada County Highway District (ACHD) as a GIS Analyst. My personal and professional goals for myself over the next couple of years are to become more active in shaping the future of GIS at ACHD, in my community, which in turn extends to the culture and plans for GIS at the state level. I am also planning to (finally) take the GISP exam (I have horrible test anxiety). I first learned about GIS while an undergraduate student at BSU while working as a student intern for our local Oceanographer, Dr Lyle where I learned how to plot XY coordinates along with bathymetric data. When the thousands of points were plotting on the screen Dr Lyle described to me how the day the points were collected on the ship there was a big storm. The ship was being knocked side to side. You could SEE the movement of the ship as the points displayed. Turns out they discovered a fault in the ocean floor on that trip and the GIS XY points that were taken that day drew the ocean floor for all to see. I was hooked! Many years later and multiple versions of ESRI's software have made me aware of the unique gift spatial data provides to our world. I would like to play a part in building an accurate, accessible, defensible GIS infrastructure in my organization, community, and the State of Idaho. COLE NELSON (Idaho Surveying and Rating Bureau) Currently I am the GIS Field Technician for the Idaho Surveying & Rating Bureau, which is a nonprofit organization that collects information on behalf of insurance companies. I started with the company in the Fall of 2019 as an intern and was promoted to my current position shortly after I graduated in the Spring of 2020. In addition to this I've been serving on the NR-URISA board as a member at large since the Spring of 2019. My GIS career started in the Fall of 2018 when I decided to go back to school for my Geography AA and GIS Certification at the College of Western Idaho. Also, I graduated in 2000 from Boise State with a Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design. My knowledge of Graphic Design has been incredibly useful in my GIS career as it works very well with Cartography. Outside of GIS I do enjoy bowling, a sport I've been very active in since I was a kid, and also play guitar. Beyond that I also enjoy spending time with my pup, Samus Aran aka Sammich, and taking her out hikes in the foothills. Beyond that I also enjoy spending time with my pup, Samus Aran aka Sammich, and taking her out hikes in the foothills. Wilma gained over 17 years of GIS experience while working for various agencies including BSU, the Idaho State Tax Commission and the Idaho Department of Water Resources. Wilma is currently a GIS Analyst at the Idaho Office of Information Technology Services and has been a member of the IGC-EC for the past eight years and currently serves as the Chair of the IGC-EC. ERIC BUEHLER (USDA) Eric Buehler holds a Bachelor's Degree in Geographic Information Systems and a Master's Degree in Natural Resources. Eric has been a GIS Specialist for the United States Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency for the past 6 years and is transferring to the Natural Resources Conservation Service this spring. He loves all things GIS and outdoors. He has been on the SWIG committee for several years, including the SWIG Chair in 2018. He enjoys being involved in the GIS community both at the local and state levels and was appointed to fill the remaining term for the Federal seat 3. Over the years she has worked on a survey crew, as a civil drafter/designer, an engineering tech, and most importantly, a GIS professional. While working for the City of Hillsboro, in Oregon she was a member of ORURISA, PAGIS, and NWGIS. Since returning to Idaho, has participated in the EIG and NRURISA, and is still a member of NWGIS. She became a member of the IGC-EC in 2018, when appointed to fill a vacated local government seat. Since joining the IGC-EC, she helped plan the 2018 Fall Conference, has made contributions to policy review and proposals, and is participating on several TWG's. "I really enjoy my associations with GIS professionals throughout Idaho and hope to continue serving as an elected member of the IGC-EC... Thank you!" JACQUELINE MALLOY (City of Chubbuck) Jacqueline Malloy joined the City of Chubbuck in 2017 and is currently the administrator of the city's enterprise GIS. She received her bachelor's in geology with a minor in geotechnology from ISU in 2017 and expects to graduate with her MS GIScience from NW Missouri State University May 2021. She is enthusiastic about advancing her career, can be counted on for an icebreaker to kick off any meeting, and is eager to contribute to the Idaho GIS community. Boundaries, Roads and Address Points Oh My! [NSGIC Logo] The Yellow Brick Road of Spatial Data Infrastructures... Boundaries, Roads and Address Points Oh My! Presented by: Sheila Steffenson, CEO for 1Spatial & Melissa Ubaldo, Solutions Engineer for 1Spatial March 24, 2021 - 2pm ET Building Statewide Spatial Data Infrastructure is no easy task. From the required collaboration to the workflow and everywhere in between there are challenges. Organizations must work with local data suppliers, other organizational departments, and even federal partners to support the data supply chain. If you are lucky, you can get the data suppliers to agree on a set of Data Governance standards to help ensure decent quality and data in a format that can be readily integrated. However, this is more often the exception rather than the rule. Often, the most daunting piece of the puzzle is getting all the incoming data to align and keep it aligned as updates are supplied year by year. With the pressure to do more with less, the support staff can be hindered by lack of resources to establish and maintain the implementation. In this presentation, 1Spatial will share the success in overcoming many of the challenges through automation in support of all aspects of the Spatial Data Infrastructure workflow. Automation of components such as data validation, schema mapping, integration, and alignment of various datasets (e.g., boundaries, linear features, etc.) can bring the relief needed to successfully accomplish the effort. This session will review a number of these challenges including identifying alignment issues between neighboring jurisdictions, aligning data sources, and keeping them aligned as updated data sources are submitted, etc. Register here. Everyone, including nonmembers, is invited to register and attend.
