I first learned about GIS while an undergraduate student at BSU while working as a student intern for our local Oceanographer, Dr Lyle where I learned how to plot XY coordinates along with bathymetric data. When the thousands of points
were plotting on the screen Dr Lyle described to me how the day the points were collected on the ship there was a big storm. The ship was being knocked side to side. You could SEE the movement of the ship as the points displayed. Turns out they discovered
a fault in the ocean floor on that trip and the GIS XY points that were taken that day drew the ocean floor for all to see. I was hooked!
