My client, Strategic & Operational Solutions, values businesses and manages business sales, including insurance agencies. An insurance agency’s book of business can have resale value, which depends on several factors including size, product lines/types, commission schedules, etc. I understand, though, that some insurance companies, themselves, own the book, and the agent has no equity in it (save, perhaps, for some nominal residuals; but no right, whatever, to sell or assign the book). Some captive agencies are structured this way.

Any input on valuing an insurance agent's book of business? It seems they are valued for loan purposes very high, but in reality they are non assignable?
