To All Eastern District of California Attorneys,

It has been four decades since the last judgeship was created in the Eastern District of California. In that period of time the population of the district has grown 220%. The judges of the Eastern District routinely carry one of the heaviest caseloads in the country. For the last decade the Judicial Conference has recommended adding up to six judges to the Eastern District bench. This continuing caseload crisis, if left unaddressed, will soon result in serious and catastrophic consequences for the Eastern District of California.

Please read the attached letter from the Judges of the Eastern District of California to the members of the Senate and the House of Representatives within the Eastern District of California regarding this important issue for those who live and litigate in the Eastern District.  You are invited to contact your Congressman or Congresswoman and/or both California Senators.
