I regret enormously that I am unable to attend the memorial service for Mike Southcombe, "the bald headed fella from Boise" as he was known in bankruptcy circles in the Magic Valley.  I would love to be there to hoist a glass in his honor.  Since I cannot be present in Boise on Saturday, I will do so at my undisclosed location away from Washington, D.C. when the hour strikes 3:00.  Mike was a large part of my early education in bankruptcy law, meted out at seminars and in court.  I was later one of the lucky recipients of his letter to the lawyers offering to forego interest and penalties so long as we "voluntarily" filed use tax returns for the previous four years and promised to do so forever into the future.  After I came to Boise I ran into Mike on occasion, usually at the post office, sometimes at the courthouse.  He always had a wry comment to share about the state of the world, or the state, or the judiciary.  Said with the twinkle in his eye so familiar to us all.  I will not bore every one with more of my Southie stories, but ask someone in this forum to please pass on to those assembled my sympathy for the loss of a friend, colleague and, for some, mentor.
