Like all of my fellow attorneys, the news of Judge Meier passing was a shock. Knowing Joe for  decades and having appeared before him in numerous cases, you had to be impressed with what a great example he set as a lawyer and jurist. We could all strive to be more like him and the bar would be better for it. You will be remembered and appreciated for years to come Judge Meier. To his family, we all offer our sincere condolences.

He was simply the best. I'm gutted. I've been listening to this Tina Turner
song, "Simply the Best" over and over again, because he was absolutely the
best. In his short time on the bench, he did a great deal of good and was an
asset to our profession. He was wise, patient, kind, just everything you
want in a judge. He always let everyone say what they needed to say. He'd
let people exhaust themselves and then ask, "Is there anything else you'd
like me to know?" No one could ever claim they didn’t get to say everything
they needed to say. I will miss him.

I remember when Joe Meier first joined Cosho Humphrey and worked with Mike
Southcombe.   Over the years, I worked with Joe a great deal-as an opposing
counsel; sometimes on the same side; a conflict referral; and always a
superb lawyer.  Honorable, knowledgeable, never condescending or superior.
A good friend for a long time.  Turned into an excellent judge, as he did in
everything else.  We've all lost one of our "pillars"  and a REALLY good man
in everything.
