Our rules allow pay for temporary additional duties which are typically performed at a higher grade than the employees current pay grade but that is as much detail as the rule gives 2. The rule is vague, so while it is applied consistently throughout the state it looks different at each agency and usually depends on duties and funding availability 3. Temporary duties are not to exceed 6 months. If the duties are still to be performed after 6 months they can "reapply" to the Human Resources Administrator for an additional 6 months but must have a plan in place for either a permanent pay adjustment, reclassification request if necessary, or a plan for a position where those duties will permanently reside. This is not in rule, but is our general practice. Let me know if you have any questions. Greetings NCASG! I would like to request information from you regarding how your state addresses the matter of Additional Duties Pay, specifically regarding temporary additional duties. 1. Are there written or unwritten laws/rules/guidelines for this in your state? Yes, rule and guidelines as well as each agency must have a policy to use the rule. 2. Are these guidelines applied uniformly throughout your state or do they vary by agency? Uniform 3. What are the defining attributes between temporary and permanent additional duties? (ie - length of time of additional duties, the significance of additional duties, etc.) Permanent duties are added to the official position description; temp duties are not. However, all payments must be reported to State Civil Service at the end of the year. For temp duty payments, we ask agencies what the duties were. If you would be willing to share your State's documentation, I would be grateful as I review and research our current process in SD. Thank you for your time. I wish all of you a Happy Holiday season! I reached out back in November with a request similar to this regarding State Trooper classifications; I'm back again, this time looking for state special schools classifications. I have attached a spreadsheet with four classifications along with brief job descriptions. These classifications do not have formal descriptions, though. These are brief overviews provided by one of our Class/Comp analysts. Included are several questions about turnover and demographic populations. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out. We would love to have a response no later than Feb 9.
