Please view the informational flyer regarding DHR’s and SIF’s upcoming Workers’ Compensation Trainings taking place this fall. Feel free to share this information with your agency employees.

Workers’ Compensation Trainings
DHR and State Insurance Fund (SIF) are teaming up to provide Workers’ Compensation Trainings for Fall 2023!

These trainings are available for free to all State of Idaho employees. A variety of topics will be covered including Safety and Workers’ Compensation 101, Office Ergonomics, Safe Materials Handling and Ergonomics, Environmental Awareness, and Supervisor Safety.

Safety and Workers’ Compensation 101

Safety and Workers’ Compensation 101 is designed to review the basics of Safety and Health principles.
Participants will learn about good Safety and Health practices within an agency, why Safety and Health is important to an agency, what employees should know about Safety and Health, and what and how an agency should communicate to their employees about working safely. This training will also discuss workers’ compensation and the role an agency has in their workers’ compensation claims.
Audience: All State of Idaho employees

Office Ergonomics
Office Ergonomics is designed to review good ergonomic practices. Participants will learn the basics of Ergonomics, signs, symptoms and causes of muscular strains and sprains as well as methods to minimize risk exposure to these types of injuries. Discussions will include good ergonomic practices for office.
Audience: Employees whose primary job responsibilities involve operating a computer, sitting at a desk, and/or office work.

Safe Materials Handling and Ergonomics
Safe Materials Handling and Ergonomics is designed to review good non-office ergonomic practices. Participants will learn the basics of Ergonomics, signs, symptoms and causes of musculoskeletal injuries such as strains and sprains. Discussions will include methods to minimize risk exposure for these types of injuries as well as risk assessment and good ergonomic principles applicable to work outside the office environment.
Audience: Employees whose primary job responsibilities involve handling or moving materials (which may include medical patients) or working with equipment/machinery.

Environmental Awareness
Environmental Awareness is designed to review the environmental hazards employees face daily. Participants will learn how to perform a basic Job Hazard Analysis, assess your environment and plan for safety. Discussions will include assessment and awareness for cold environments (Protecting Workers from Cold Stress) and hot environments (Protecting Workers from Heat Illness).
Audience: Employees whose primary job responsibilities involve working with equipment/machinery, working outside, or working in a warehouse.

Supervisor Safety
Supervisor Safety is designed to review the responsibility of supervisors/managers for employee safety. Participants will learn to think about Safety and Health like a supervisor and learn about supervisor Safety and Health duties. Discussion will also include causes of accidents, accident investigation, root cause analysis, hidden costs of injuries, and the five basic supervisor principles of Safety and Health.
Audience: Any State of Idaho supervisors/managers.
