Hello Directors,

The Legislature passed Senate Bill 1054 this year which amends existing statute to allow police and firefighters to retire and return to work, while still receiving their retirement benefits: https://legislature.idaho.gov/wp-content/uploads/sessioninfo/2023/legislation/S1054.pdf

We are working on guidelines for executive agencies to ensure consistent application of these provisions.

Please hold off on implementing any agency policies until we share the guidelines.

Also, please advise your managers that one of the provisions in the statute is that we cannot guarantee re-employment prior to an employee's retirement. If an employee inquires about the possibility, let them know they can certain express interest in returning after their separation but that we cannot guarantee that prior to their separation otherwise they would become ineligible to participate.
