Good Morning,
As you may know, I announced yesterday morning at the Idaho Geospatial Forum meeting that Bill Farnsworth has taken on the role of Geospatial Information Officer.
Bill has a strong background in technology and management, especially web based applications and services. His leadership and communications skills, coupled with his ability to facilitate groups working through complex problems, make him the ideal candidate to be a leader in Idaho's GIS community at this time.
Some of you may find it difficult to understand why I would choose a person with a more general technology and management background for this critical position. Regardless of background, any GIO would require the trust and support of the community in order to be successful. Bill and I will be working very hard to earn that trust and support and to reaffirm the important role GIS plays in serving Idaho and its citizens.
I trust that as GIS professionals you will judge Bill's performance by its own merits and neither more nor less harshly for his background. We all want to see good things happen through and for the GIS community. With your support, I am confident Bill can help us make those things happen.
Regards, Greg
