The purpose of this pilot project is to use the ArcGIS Online for Organizations service to create, publish/register, and share geospatial data services, web maps, and web applications within their organization and across Idaho's Geospatial Enterprise. Information gathered during the pilot will help inform us whether it would be worthwhile to continue with an Idaho ArcGIS Online for Organizations subscription long term. Using one enterprise subscription would enable us to reach the numbers of users that would result in substantial savings per user for the state. The Questions: Would there be an interest in doing this? Would a six month pilot at no cost be long enough to evaluate it? Would agencies have a budget for their users after the pilot is over (depending on the cost of course)? Would agencies want to get together and discuss this? We have an opportunity to do an extended pilot. The thought would be to put a core group together to plan and administer it. Let me know. Every two years, NASA reviews all of its Earth science satellites to determine whether to continue funding/operating the satellites in order to produce their related data products. While science is the primary factor in their determination, NASA does take into account the views of other agencies (Federal, State, & Local), private sector, NGOs, etc. that use the satellite data products for their own business needs. The 2013 Senior Review assesses all 13 NASA Earth science satellite missions. Attached to this email is a survey that gathers pertinent information on the missions. I will be compiling your State Level responses to the attached survey in order to provide an overall State-Level assessment to NASA. Even if your state agency does not use NASA related satellite data products, if you know of a state agency or a division within your state that does PLEASE FORWARD this email to them. Remember, NASA is facing the same budget stresses we all are. If you have business process and needs that are dependent on NASA satellite related data products your input is needed in order to help insure a future for those particular satellite missions. Please fill out a separate survey for each mission/sensor. I need ALL RESPONSES back to me by APRIL 1st, 2013. Thanks in advance for your help in this matter. We are planning a two day training/evaluation/information meeting: Dates: April 15 & 16 Times: All day Location: Basement Conference Room, LBJ Building, 650 W State St, Boise Idaho. Agenda: To be refined as we get closer, below is the information from Esri about this. This Enterprise approach to ArcGIS online could save the State a large amount of money compared with each agency doing their own. I look forward to everybody letting me know how we can proceed and attending the kick-off meeting to get more information and understanding about the project. This is new to all of us. In summary, Shane and another Solution Engineer (possibly Scott Moore) and myself would like to schedule a kick off meeting in Boise April 15 & 16. The purpose of the kick off meeting is to provide an overview of ArcGIS online and how each agency can begin to identify project(s) that will be the focus for the Pilot. We'll help guide them through the decision process so that there are real prototype applications being developed. We'll discuss architecture needs to successfully launch the pilot and collaboratively develop key milestones. We anticipate 1-2 days of collaboration with all the State agencies to kick off the Pilot. Other agencies that are not there or have not committed to a Pilot can always join later as well. Apparently setting up the Pilot with a subscription to ArcGIS Online is really easy and simple. All we'll need to do is determine the size and level. You can always upgrade to a higher level if needed during the Pilot at any time. During the Pilot ESRI will be conducting some onsite training sessions, sharing ideas and we'll collectively schedule bi-monthly conference calls to check in on the status of the pilot projects. For an example today, I had 3 conference calls with the State of Oregon, on 3 different Pilot project updates. These occur every two weeks. Eric with ODAS arranges these calls and has the representative from each agency provide an update. They are nearing the end of their pilot and will be summarizing the results and experience in the next few months. I will make sure we share this data with you as well.
