[NCASG] Paid Family Leave

Hi Ellen,

New York allows Paid Family Leave for the circumstance you described. Here are New York's parent and child definitions for birth, foster care, and adoption bonding leaves.

A child is defined as a biological, adopted, or foster son or daughter, a stepson or stepdaughter, a legal ward, a son or daughter of a domestic partner, or the person to whom the employee stands in loco parentis. A parent is defined as a biological, foster, or adoptive parent, parent-in-law, a stepparent, a legal guardian, or other person who stood in loco parentis to the employee when the employee was a child

Hi All -
A quick question for any states who offer Paid Family Leave for employees who adopt a child. If your employee is a stepparent who is adopting a stepchild or stepchildren, would you allow paid family leave for that circumstance?

We have had a request to do so and our policy does not specifically make them ineligible, although one could say that was not the intent of paid family leave for adoption. Just hoping to get info on what other states who offer paid family leave have done or would do.
