Just as a point of clarification, my input for NC was regarding our use of the PayScale MarketPay system, not PayScale Benchmark. Those are two different products. They also have something called PayScale Insight Lab.

Hi Meghan,

Here is Louisiana’s response. Please send us a copy of the results as we are currently assessing if we will continue using this product. Thanks!

1. Do you use PayScale?

Yes, we purchased PayScale Benchmark in 2018. We have used it as an additional source of data for some agency requests, but have not yet integrated it into our annual benchmarking process.

2. How did you change past processes to accommodate this tool?

No changes yet.

3. Do you have any advice for a government entity that may be looking to implement this tool?

Plan to spend significant time onboarding the product. Each classification has to be matched to a PayScale job before you’re able to access data and it is not a quick process. The system lags between screens several seconds. If you’re trying to research market data for a new job that hasn’t been created yet, you still have to create a fictitious job code to get the data. Also, it is not possible to separate public and private sector companies. It’s all lumped together under “company.” This is why we’ve been unable to use it for annual benchmarking since we provide a public sector and private sector number separately. Another aspect in question is that when I try to pull data for the Baton Rouge local market, I don’t get data actually from Baton Rouge. The system provides data from comparable cities all across the country in the report. This data also seems to be much lower than what we usually see in our other product, CompAnalyst.

4. Has this tool been a good investment?

This product has really great summary reports that are easy for clients to understand. Other than that, yet to be determined.

Good morning,

Wyoming is considering the addition of PayScale as a compensation tool but wanted to reach out for some advice first:

1. Do you use PayScale?

2. How did you change past processes to accommodate this tool?

3. Do you have any advice for a government entity that may be looking to implement this tool?

4. Has this tool been a good investment?

Thank you for your time,

Meghan
