Happy Wednesday NCASG Members,
The state of NC is exploring options for observing Juneteenth.  If at all possible, please reply to stephanie.McFadden at nc.gov<mailto:stephanie.McFadden at nc.gov> by January 25, 2021.


  1.  Does your state currently observe Juneteenth as a paid holiday?   No so, please provide the relevant link or a copy of the Juneteenth policy/provision.
  2.  If your state does not observe Juneteenth as a paid holiday, is it recognized or celebrated in another way such as a proclamation, day of service etc,?   no, a resolution in 2011 was passed and recognized it for that year but I can't find anything since then  In 2020 legislation was introduced to observe Juneteenth on the 3rd Saturday of June and to require a proclamation from the Governor - it did not make it to a vote. Please explain.
  3.  If your state does not currently observe Juneteenth, are there plans to acknowledge or celebrate in 2021? Probably but it would be through private organizations or non-profits so, how?
