[NCASG] Probation and Parole Survey for NCASG Members

Good afternoon all,

The State of Alaska is conducting a comprehensive review of job classes responsible for probation and parole work conducted in the field and within our correctional institutions. For your reference, current descriptions of our primary line probation and parole classes are attached.

We are hoping to gather some information regarding how this work is structured and delegated in your state. If you could please take a few minutes to review and respond to the questions we have below, that would be very helpful:


  *   Does your state employ job classes responsible for the supervision/case management of convicted offenders released on parole? If not, what jurisdiction levels (e.g., county, municipality) is this supervision typically occurring at?
  *   Does your state employ any parole officer type of job classes in state-run institutions for purposes of providing case management to inmates with the goal of transitioning them to release back to the community? If so, please elaborate as best you can.
  *   Does your state employ any job classes responsible for electronic and other monitoring and supervision of charged defendants awaiting trial while on release in the community? If so, please elaborate as best you can.
  *   Are your parole officers authorized/required to carry firearms?
  *   Do your parole officers exercise authority to make arrests? If so, please elaborate as best you can.
